Why Should Lawyers Take Time To Connect With Their Souls?

By Joncara Marshall

Whether you believe in the self or a higher being, everyone has a Soul. Understanding and connecting to your Soul can lead to a new way of not just improving your personal life but also how you practice. In the Esquire Coaching Radio broadcast, “Listening to Your Soul for Success,” Jennifer Urezzio, founder and director of Soul Languages and author of Soul Language: Consciously Connecting with Your Soul for Success, gives her knowledge and expertise on how to create a better link with your Soul.

But first: what is a Soul? Jennifer defines it as “the essence of who we are…an energetic life force that propels us forward.” But it is also whatever you want to define it as. Connecting to your Soul is a matter of finding your own truths and not following the truths set by others. This may be hard for a lawyer who has relied primarily on their intellect, rather than their intuition.

Why is connecting to your Soul important for lawyers? Jennifer says that when you are linked to your Soul, you begin to feel safer, have more support, and be more knowledgeable in what steps you should take. With a deepened understanding of your Soul, you can also remember the reason why you decided to become an attorney or started your own practice. In addition, linking to your Soul could also lead you to discovering your gift or talent, or what people often come to you for. It could be making people feel more confident in themselves or being able to empathize well with clients. Your gift or talent does not have to come from your experience as a lawyer, but it can be incorporated into how you practice law.

Connecting to your Soul does not require you to drastically change your life. In fact, there may have been instances in which you had already been connected to your Soul. Those moments when you listened to your intuition were times when you linked with your Soul. In order to deepen this connection, you must acknowledge your intuition- “play with it” to be more familiar with it. You should also ask yourself this question: “What do I need to know today for my life to be more enjoyable, more impactful?” Jennifer says you can find your answer while you are in the shower or exercising. By asking yourself this question, it will make you more focused on what you need to do.

  1. Check out my blog posting today. King Solomon and Defense Lawyers. You might enjoy King Solomon’s method to dissuade a defense lawyer from taking on a case when he knows the party is guilty.
